Saint Sebastiane the Martyr

end of 1st century AD

Sebastastiane was from the city of Sivasti, Phrygia of Byzantine Empire. (modern day Turkey). Living during the first century, Apostles Paul taught to her the Christian faith. She was brave and passionate like her teacher.

Each day of her life she lived as Christ asked of us. During the day, she would go to the women in their homes and preach to them the word of God. She converted many pagans to Christ.

When the emperor Domitian got word of what she was doing, he captured her and ordered his men to torture her, slashing her body with whips and throwing her into a hot oven. She did not burned and was saved through God’s mercy. After he exiled her from Sivasti. She was sent to a small city in northern Greece.

She was put on trial for a second time and went through several more torments.

The soldiers tortured her, but she was brave. Pompianos attempted to persuade her to change her faith, promising glory and riches. She was fervent and remained faithful to Christ.

Pompianos then ordered his men to shave off all of her skin steel. After they completed this gruesome, she was still alive and professed her love for Christ saying “Glory be unto God!” She was strong and did not die yet.

She was then thrown to wild beast, but they refused to eat her.

Pompianos finally had her beheaded and she gave her soul unto the Lord.

Her body was buried in Raidestos, modern day Tekirdağ, Turkey.
