Saint Pelagia of Antioch

Commemorated on October 8

Just a young girl , Saint Pelagia of Antioch was pure and full of love for Christ. Filled with innocence and brimming with passion for the Christian Faith, she was strong in her belief. Living in a time of persecution, the Emperor Diocletian was merciless toward those practicing Christianity.

Known as a virgin saint, at the young age of 15, soldiers of the emperor came to taint her purity and attempt to make her worship the idols. To flee from their wicked ways, she jumped out of her bedroom window and fell to her death.

Her martyrdom is respected as she was only a girl, but a girl who put Christ fully before herself.

Troparion

Troparion β€” Tone 8

The image of God was truly preserved in you, O Mother, / for you took up the Cross and followed Christ. / By so doing you taught us to disregard the flesh for it passes away / but to care instead for the soul, since it is immortal. / Therefore your spirit, venerable Pelagia, rejoices with the angels.
